Sustainability has always been a cornerstone at StH, and we are constantly looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact.
We are excited to have found the first of its kind -- a Dissolvable Garment Bag. Many garment bags are soil or industrially compostable, but this raises end-of-life issues for consumers without a composting habit, or access to an industrial composting system. With this in mind, we specifically sourced for one with a clearly defined end-of-life path, reducing ambiguity in its disposal process.
Made with Hydropol™ by British company Aquapak, the base material of the garment bag resembles that of dissolvable surgical stitches. This bag is completely biodegradable in aerobic conditions (soil compost & freshwater) and anaerobic conditions (sewerage & landfills). Even better, it can be dissolved in hot water, leaving no trace nor micro plastics behind, making it safe for marine environments.
Step 01
Bring water to a boil, pour boiling water in a bowl
Step 02
Place Dissolvable Garment Bag in bowl and stir to dissolve until only seal strip is left behind
Step 03
Discard seal strip separately and pour water away, using it for gardening if you wish
At present : Our Knits and our Tees are packaged in the Dissolvable Garment Bag. While we are working towards transitioning more styles from upcoming collections to be in these dissolvable bags, existing styles will continue to be packaged in our StH Organic Cotton Dust Bags that were produced from before.
-- Thank you for allowing us to share this discovery with you. We’re excited for you to experience dissolving them at home yourself!
